In 1985, Rotary International launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to rid the world of the scourge of the polio virus. Since that time Rotary has raised $1.9 billion for the effort, and facilitated world wide contributions of over $8 billion. Since that time polio cases have decreased by 99.9%. October 24th has been designated international World Polio Day. In support of this effort, the Kansas City, Kansas Rotary Club worked to have the Unified Government issue a proclamation that October 24, 2019 is World Polio Day in Wyandotte County.
