AboutLeah Schwarz, LSCSW, LCSW, RPTLeah is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker in Kansas, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri, and a Registered Play Therapist. She is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Leah is passionate about working with children, teens, adults, and families.
She draws on over 7 years of bilingual experience, 4 years working with children and families in community mental health and 3 years working with survivors of domestic violence and their families. She is bilingual in English and Spanish from having lived in Bolivia for most of her childhood and travelling around Central and South America. Leah believes in the dignity and worth of all people and approach therapy with the belief that everyone is doing the best they can in the situation they are in. I believe Each person is on their own unique journey and she strives to meet clients where they are on their journey. |

Global Ties KC - Developing Citizen Diplomats

Courtney Brooks, Executive Director of Global Ties KC, is responsible for connecting US Department of State programs to Kansas and Missouri. She is passionate about building bridges across cultures and believes firmly in the value of running a non-profit like an entrepreneur. Through her role as the Executive Director of Global Ties KC, she plans and implements Department of State sponsored adult and youth programs which bring delegates from over 100 countries across the world to the Kansas City area each year, connecting them with locals through professional and cultural activities. Courtney has been to all seven continents, and has lived in both Asia and South America. She holds an MBA from UMKC Bloch School of Management in finance and international business as well as a BA from Saint Louis University with a triple major in political science, economics, and international studies.
Global Ties KC has existed as a non-profit in Kansas City for almost 70 years, bringing leaders from around the world to the Heartland. In addition to professional and youth exchange programs, they provide opportunities for local high school students to engage in cultural learning via the Youth Diplomat Institute, experiences for dinner hosts or short-term host families, and create thousands of touchpoints between professionals in the community and their international counterparts each year.

Flagship Books: Opening a Bookstore in Strawberry Hill

Kansas City, Kansas hasn't had an independent bookstores in decades! Inititally, Joel and Ty Melgren, Strawberry Hill residents and brothers, opened their book store, Flagship Books, in North Kansas City, but they had always hoped to relocate to Strawberry Hill which they did a year ago. They have books in English, Spanish, and Burmese and offer classes, readings, and opportunities to build community through their bookstore.
