Today, a young woman who graduated from Turner High School and received a scholarship this past May from The Kansas City, Kansas Rotary Presidents' Foundation will be joining us. Having embarked on her college careers, Elizabeth Thang will be sharing her story with us and giving us her vision for the future of Wyandotte County.

Edgar Palacios is the President & CEO (founder) of the Latinx Education Collaborative (LEC), a nonprofit, start-up organization that works to increase the representation of Latinx education professionals in K-12. Edgar previously owned a nonprofit consultancy (EJPKC, LLC) and has had the privilege of working with organizations such as Community Builders of Kansas City; Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City; El Centro, Inc.; Show Me KC Schools; and the Kauffman Foundation. |

Dr. Anna Stubblefield became Superintendent of Unified School District No. 500 on July 1, 2021, having previously worked for the Lawrence Public Schools, most recently serving as the Deputy Superintendent. She began her career in education as a teach and thereafter transitioned into roles as a coach and assistant principal in the Blue Valley and Center School Districts. On the District's website, Dr. Stubblefield explained, "My intention is that every student will graduate from the district empowered and ready to launch. I share in the vision of making the district's mission a reality-inspiring Excellence: Every Grownup, Every Child, Every Day." Please join us in welcoming Dr. Stubblefield to Kansas City, Kansas!

Amy Loch, Director of the Wyandotte County Historical Museum since 2019, will be joining us today to bring Club members up to date on what is going on at the museum. Prior to moving to Wyandotte County, Ms. Loch worked at the Stillwater History Museum and served as the Director of the Logan County Historical Society in Guthrie, both in Oklahoma. She also served as the Curator of the Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita, Kansas, and the Registrar at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in Maryland after graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with an MA in Public History and an undergraduate degree in History.

Denise Ogilvie, Chief Mission Officer for Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, will speak to the Club about the need for homeless shelters in Kansas City, Kansas and the work going on to provide needed shelter for the homeless at Sanctuary of Hope which is being renovated as a new location for Shalom House.

Life of a Criminal Case in the DA's Office

Today we will be joined by Candice Alcaraz, Assistant District Attorney in the Wyandotte County DA's Office. Ms. Alcaraz will be giving a presentation on the life of a case in the DA's office, including juvenile and specialty court cases (such as drug, mental health, or veteran's courts) as well as a more traditional criminal case.

For the last meeting of February, we will be joined by Moses Wyatt, Jr., the Founder/CEO of The Jegna Klub and a Behavior Intervention Specialist at Grant Elementary School in KCK. Mr. Wyatt was also recently named as the Youth Advocate Liaison to KCK Mayor Tyrone Garner's office. Mr. Wyatt is also known as Coach Wyatt, having coached scholastic and amateur athletes for 24 years. Mr. Wyatt's belief that he "must leave a place better than he found it' motivates him in all his work.
